What is Drylining?

Definition

Drylining is the process of attaching insulation boards and plasterboard directly to internal walls or ceilings, thereby improving thermal and acoustic performance without the use of wet plaster. It’s widely used in both new-builds and retrofits.

Benefits

  • Thermal Efficiency: Reduces heat loss and improves U-values.
  • Acoustic Comfort: Minimises sound transmission between rooms.
  • Speed & Cleanliness: Faster installation than traditional plastering.
  • Space-Saving: Achieves insulation without thick walls.

Applications

  • Safe-R and Thin-R boards are ideal for internal walls and partitions.
  • Works in combination with full-fill or partial-fill cavity walls.
  • It can be used in offices, homes, and commercial buildings.

Best Practice Tips

  • Include a Vapour Control Layer (VCL) where the risk of moisture is high.
  • Butt boards tightly to prevent thermal bridging.
  • Finish with plasterboard for a smooth interior surface.
